It looks like the “Transformers” hype was matched by its performance at the box office, earning $67.6 million over the weekend to rank number 1. The Michael Bay movie set a new record for the highest gross for a non-sequel in its first week with $152.6 million since opening on Tuesday, surpassing 2002’s “Spider-Man”. In comparison, “Spider-Man 3″ earned $151.1 million in its first three days of release and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” took in $114.7 million in its opening weekend.
